Budget & Diet

Budget and diet- two similar concepts.

Usually you start both at some kind of low point. You don’t have enough money to buy that new car, or, you can’t fit into your favorite jeans.

So you decide to go on a budget or a diet. These two words have negative meanings to most people, they are like a punishment. Your parents may have put you on a budget while saving for your first car, you must make a choice between the new cd or saving for the car.

You move out on your own, nothing is free so you must go on a budget. You have to decide to go out on the town every weekend or pay rent.
None of your clothes fit, you have to go on a diet. Your 20th high school reunion is coming up, you must go on a diet. Give and take- hard choices.

Getting to your desired end result often feels the same in both scenarios. You can’t buy that gorgeous purse, you cannot eat that tasty donut.

You feel that you are bad for wanting these things which makes you want them more and then finally you breakdown and eat that donut and buy that purse. You feel wonderful and miserable at the same time.

Both budget and diet take will power. You have to focus on the end result- the reason you created the diet or budget. You have to reward yourself along the way.
I do not mean go on a spending spree or eating binge. What I am talking about is personal rewards. Mental pats on the back for ducking temptation and bringing yourself closer to your goals.

Avoiding temptation is not always easy- it is how you deal with it that will get easier as you head towards your ultimate goal.
